How this Course Works
This course is designed for either individual or group use. In small group use, it can be completed as a six-week or six-session study.
Overall framing of the course:
- Each module is designed to be completed as one unit.
- Each module begins with a centering Scripture passage whose theme relates to the content of the module.
- Each module begins with an opening prayer.
- Each module contains primary documents or images from GCAH's archive.
- Each module contains additional reading in PDF form.
- Each module ends with discussion questions.
For individuals:
If you are an individual taking the course, proceed as fast or slow as you'd like. We encourage you to keep a journal or to take notes as you proceed and to take time to reflect on the discussion questions at the end of each module. You may complete as much or as little of the additional reading as you'd like.
For groups:
We recommend that the group leader proceeds through the course, quickly, prior to the meeting. They should be familiar with the major themes of the course and of each module. They should think through which of the additional readings (if any) might be best for their group to complete.
We recommend that the participants of the small group read through the bulk of the material and watch the videos prior to the meeting, and come with comments and/or questions about what they've read.
During the small group session, we recommend that the leader begins with the Scripture and prayer. Then proceed with outlining the theme of the lesson/module. We encourage you to pinpoint certain documents, videos, or sections to focus on in the session itself. Then using the discussion questions provided at the end of the module, open the floor up for reflection and content discussion.
